Wollongong Harbour and Lighthouse

Continuing my travelogue on the 8 days Road Trip I took during Christmas Break, here's the breakdown of my amazing journey from Sydney to 12 Apostles

Hop on as we drive through snaking coastlines and dense forests.
So on Day 1 we covered Sea Cliff Bridge and reached Wollonong. After which we stopped by Kiama, Mt Pleasant and Reddal Reserve.

It was quite sunny and warm on Christmas. The sun was shining in its full glory, yet afar I could see dark clouds gather around hill tops, as if waiting for an appropriate time to burst into torrential rain (and it did)
The swell was strong and waves crashed against the high walls, along the Harbour walkaway.

I walked down the path, to the lighthouse, enjoying the soothing sea breeze. Even though it was public holiday (Christmas), the place was deserted - quite and beautiful.

Fun fact - Can you see the two lighthouses? Wollongong is the only place in Eastern Australia to have two lighthouses.

Wollongong Breakwater Lighthouse - Wollongong Harbour's Breakwater lighthouse has been inactive since 1974 (a decorative light is displayed on special occasions). It stands 12 metres (40 feet) high and has a tapered round wrought iron tower with lantern, painted white. The lighthouse was seriously deteriorated before a restoration in 1978 and 1979 stabilised its condition.- Source

  3. Lovely captures of the harbour front and the walkway.

  4. I love a harbor town. These photos show how you loved and enjoyed.

  5. I really like the way you have sequenced the pictures in this post. Those vastnesses and widenesses in the first few shots, then you in some of these beautiful places and then back to the wideness and vastness of the space. There is a great story right in the ordering of these shots. Lovely.

  6. wow, gorgeous for a Christmas day, I love taking road trips. The twelve apostles have always been on my bucket list. One of these days I'll make it down there.

  7. Beautiful scenery and lovely views. I enjoy seeing the lighthouses.. Looks like a pretty place to visit.. Great photos..
