Vivekanand Rock , India
How does it feel to visit and see something about which you have been reading all through your school. Vivekanand Rock Memorial is major historical monument situated at the southernmost land tip of India - Kanyakumari. It is said that Swami Vivekananda swam up to the rock and meditated and attained enlightenment. I watched in awe, walked along the rock, along the pillars to take in all and admire this historic memorial. The merger of Bay of bengal, Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean can be seen from the rock.
Next to Vivekanand Rock is another important monument - Thiruvalluvar Rock
Victoria Memorial, Kolkata (WestBengal, India)
I visited Victoria Memorial 5 years ago when I was working in Kolkata for few months. The pristine white marble monument stood high against the cerulean sky. It was built in 1902 and 1912 in memory of Queen Victoria and is now a museum.

Another lovely place. Thanks for showing these lovely places to us. As a Canadian, I don't know a lot about India so it's fun to learn about these places.
ReplyDeleteSo happy to learn about this landmark. India is on my travel list.
ReplyDeleteVery nice pictures. An attempt of the British to create a replica of Taj Mahal in the honour of the Queen, the Victoria Memorial is an imposing monument of glittering white marble in an oasis of green. Recognized as the symbol of Kolkata, this monument houses a museum displaying British memorabilia and knick knacks from the time of the Raj. Check out all about Victoria Memorial.
