Cathedral of Light | Vivid Sydney 2016 | Botanic Garden

Cathedral of Lights at The Royal Botanic Garden Sydney was my favorite installation this year. As a part of 3-week festival of lights, this 70-meter tunnel illuminated by tens and thousands of LED lights was placed along the waterside, a few minutes away from the iconic Opera House.

I absolutely loved the idea and I could see everyone being excited about this gorgeous piece of art.

Artist: Mandylights (Richard Neville (United Kingdom))
Collaborators: Daniel Mercer (Australia) / Shane Radcliffe (Australia) / Andy Romanowski  (Poland)
“The artists draw the analogy that, just like a strong community or congregation, the sculpture is made up of many smaller parts that work together to achieve a stronger, unified output.”

The Opera house dazzled in the dark of the night. We got a lovely view of the Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge from the entrance to Royal Botanic Garden. Before stepping into the light tunnel, I watched the laser projection on Opera house, MCA Building and Custom House.

Vivid Sydney 2016 is over and I hope they come back with a similar concept next year too. As a part of the celebration, hundreds of creative pieces were placed in and around Sydney, attracting thousands of tourists. Check out the sails over Opera House and the fountain at Martin Place.

  1. Wow, how gorgeous! Light, endless light. And the feel of this new space is very nice too. Well done, Raj!

  2. Looking over all the linky entries at this week's WW on image-in-ing, your Cathedral of Lights caught my eye. Amazing! I bet it was something to be their in person?

  3. Wow! That looks like an amazing art/light exhibit. I'm hoping to visit Sydney at some point; I hope when I visit something like this is going on. It truly is beautiful. 🙂

  4. That light tunnel is simply amazing! It must be so much better to see them for real, right before your eyes. Lucky you!
